Riding

What you CAN do

Riding can provide both physical therapy and mental stimulation. The warmth and three dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the rider’s body, gradually making it more relaxed and supple, strengthening core stability, and improving balance, posture and co-ordination.

The Group organises riding sessions at the Eden Meadows Riding Centre for adults and children. The Centre has an indoor arena and a pool of horses and ponies which have been carefully selected for their suitability as RDA mounts.

Riding sessions take place on Wednesdays during the school term – in the afternoon for adults and after school for children. Up to four riders take part on each session which lasts 30 minutes. The lessons are taught by qualified RDA instructors and assisted by a team of dedicated volunteers. Once a rider joins the Group they stay with us for as long as they wish to ride. Some current riders have been with us forwell over 15 years!

We have a wide selection of equipment and activities that help to make our rides beneficial, stimulating and, most importantly, enjoyable for all those who ride with us – of all ages.

Each year some of our riders enter the County Fun Day, joining up with other Norfolk RDA groups to take part in activities and races.

We were fortunate to receive funding, and assistance, to install a purpose built mounting block with fixed ramp which allows wheelchair users and those less physically able to transfer easily onto the horse or pony they are to ride.

The majority of our riders join the Group through direct approaches but some of our adults come to us via their Community Hubs.
